Return to Work Support

Rebuilding the physical capacity, practical skills and confidence needed to return to meaningful employment following an injury.

Return to work support is occupational therapy focused on getting someone back to employment safely and sustainably after an injury. An occupational therapist assesses what the person can currently do, compares that against the demands of their role, and works with them and their employer to develop a graded, realistic plan for getting back to work. This might involve building physical capacity, modifying the work environment, adjusting duties, or a combination of all three. The process is documented throughout, with the clinical reports needed to support ongoing funding completed as part of the service.

What the service includes

Work capacity assessment

We assess the person's current functional capacity against the specific physical and cognitive demands of their role, identifying the gap and what is needed to bridge it safely.

Graded return to work planning

We develop a structured, evidence-based plan for safely increasing hours and duties over time — manageable for the person and practical for the employer.

Workplace assessment

We assess the physical work environment, identify ergonomic risks and recommend workstation or task modifications that support a safer and more sustainable return.

Recovery plan documentation

We complete the clinical documentation required to support ongoing treatment and funding approval, submitted on time and formatted to the relevant body's requirements.

Employer and team liaison

We work directly with the employer, GP and treating team to ensure the return to work plan is understood, agreed and practical to implement from day one.

Goal-directed therapy

Where capacity needs to be built before a return is possible, we deliver targeted therapy sessions focused on the specific strength, endurance and skills the role requires.
